# Windows online patch scan fails with error "The caller has requested some action on a service that is not known to the datastore"

Sometimes posting online patch scan for windows machines might fail with error **“The caller has requested some action on a service that is not known to the datastore”**.

This error might occur if the online patch scan pre-requisite is missing in the end machine.

For online patch scan, **"Receive updates for other Microsoft products when you update Windows”** option must be enabled under windows update advanced settings.

Sometimes even though above mentioned Microsoft setting is enabled, the scan will fail with mentioned error. During that time please check whether below URL is whitelisted in the endpoint.
